Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

I’m located in Red Deer, in Central Alberta, halfway between Calgary and Edmonton. I work from my home, so my specific address will be provided to clients who are coming for a fitting.

I identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, can a custom undergarment serve my needs?

Absolutely! The beauty of custom work is we can combine fabric choice with pattern, and after appropriate modifications to suit your unique shape, we will end up with something that meets your needs! Currently, I am advertising custom bras and underwear on my website, but I can provide other types of gender-affirming undergarments as well! Please contact me to discuss your needs.

What sizes do you work with?

I myself have a small band and cup size. I have fit people with bands and cup sizes and shapes that differ from mine. You can be assured that in our initial fitting I will discuss with you patterns that will work for your unique shape and needs and determine appropriate modifications to fit you perfectly or draft a pattern for you if that is what will work best.

What actions are you taking in terms of anti-racism?

Serving ALL bodies is very important to me. I offer a range of basic colours - black, white, and four other colours that allow for a closer skin tone match if you are seeking a “nude” bra.

Do you serve international clients?

I serve clients in the Central Alberta area in person. I can serve clients within Canada, so long as you have a good internet connection to be able to have a Zoom video call for fittings. Because I send mock ups back and forth to my clients, serving clients outside of Canada gets very tricky for border reasons. Exceptions can be made if you are happy with a made-to-your-measurements undergarment or a semi-custom undergarment. Feel free to contact me to discuss.

I’m looking for a wireless bra. Do you do those too?

Wireless bras are constructed very similarly to underwired ones and I currently have a few different styles of wireless bras to choose from. I also have a number of bralette patterns available. Bralettes are not as supportive as a bra, but are great for certain circumstances!

What is the turn around time for a bra?

Currently, my turn around time is two weeks for each phase of the fitting. The ultimate timeline will depend on how complex your fitting needs are and how many mock ups and fittings we need to complete to get to a well-fitting garment. Initial consultation to final bra will take roughly eight to ten weeks, with longer timelines necessary for remote clients where we have to wait for the mail to move back and forth. Initial fitting to final underwear will take approximately two to four weeks.

How do I care for my new bra or underwear?

Ideally, your new undergarment should be hand-washed. I recommend a rinse-free detergent like Soak or Eucalan for minimal effort on your part - simply fill the sink while you shower or bathe, soak your undergarments, and gently squeeze them in a towel when you are finished.

If handwashing is not your thing, know that the ultimate lifespan of your undergarment will be decreased. Please use a lingerie wash bag to ensure that the other garments in the wash load are not pulling on or twisting up your undergarments.

AIR DRY!!! I am putting this in all caps because it is very important that your new undergarments do not go in the dryer!! The dryer will ruin the elastics very fast. I like to lay mine flat to dry on my laundry rack, but you can also hang to dry.

How can a custom undergarment help me minimize my impact on the climate?

It is a well-documented fact that the fashion and garment industries are major polluters and have a huge impact on landfill space, water quality, as well as worker treatment. Choosing slow fashion items, such as custom bras and underwear ensure that your overall fabric consumption is much lower. No need to visit a big box store every three months for new undergarments since they wear out so quickly.

I only use premium materials, such as duoplex and bra tulle which are known to hold up well to careful laundering. I have been washing my bras at least twice each week for nearly four years and they are still in excellent condition. The lifespan of underwear is typically lower as the stretchy fabrics that make underwear comfortable are not as durable as the low stretch fabrics used in bras.

Additionally, when a garment fits you well, the stress points in the garment are where they are designed to fall, which also reduces the amount of wear a garment experiences.

Furthermore, I do not allow any of my fiber waste to go to the landfill. I reuse as much of the bra-making materials and elastics from mock ups as I can, and all off-cuts and thread ends end up in my scrap bolster (a small cushion that will be stuffed with fibre that would otherwise simply be waste).

When your bra finally wears out, return it to me and I will harvest the metal components for reuse.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Currently, I prefer e-transfer payments made to info@allbodiescustomlingerie.ca. Auto-deposit is enabled, so no password necessary. I will also accept cash or cheque.

Why are your bras and underwear so expensive?

It is true you can walk into a big box store and find a bra for a small fraction of the prices that I charge. These bras are usually not made of the highest quality of materials nor under the best of working conditions. My prices cover the time spent customizing a pattern for your unique body, the cost of high quality material, expert workmanship, and a living wage.

I am happy to offer gift certificates or credits towards a bra if you need help with budgeting for one over a period of time.

Not sure if a custom bra is right for you?

That’s fair. A custom undergarment is an investment. I am happy to have a consultation with you for $10. This covers the cost of my time and expertise, and if you decide to go ahead and purchase an undergarment, the consultation fee will go towards the cost of your custom bra or underwear.
